Label the formation and date
Depth can change between formations. Put the formation, side of the ball, and update date at the top so staff know which assignments they are reviewing.
Use the position labels you coach
The example worksheet uses eleven offensive roles, including X, Z, H, and Y. Those receiver labels are examples, not universal terminology. Rename them to match your formation.
Record who is learning the position
Use the first and second columns for current depth and the development column for players learning the assignment. Review the chart with your staff as those players progress. It is a planning aid, not a promise of playing time.
Review the whole personnel group
Check for players assigned to two positions at once. When a substitute enters, review the complete group so the staff can see whether another position also needs coverage.
